Welcome to my world
I learned a few things in my life.
I learned that there is beauty in the small details.
I came to believe as I grow older, that wrinkles are Gods makeup, it tells your story.
Telling your authentic story is my privilege.
My Story
I bought my first 35mm camera as a student. A film camera, Pentax K1000. It was robust, and I learned about patience. Waiting a few days for the prints to arrive, only to learn that my focus was off. Later on I used a super fast 1 hour lab that took anything from 30 minutes to 4 hours. At some point I tried my hand at development of black and white, and I fell in love with contrasts.
My studies took me to Physics, modelling black holes and Astrophysics. I learned how to clean and process digital images for accuracy, and I appreciated and understood the value authenticity.
I bought a small Olympus 2MP digital camera when the digital hype started. The 12/24/36 image limitation was a thing of the past. I could experiment. And with a few astronomy courses, funded my Nikon love affair with a D70s. Yes, it back focused, but allowed me to get lost in sport photography. Got some of my polo pictures published in some horse magazines in South Africa, and thanks to my daughter passion for every thing horses, photographed many horse jumping and dressage shows.
This served me well until I could afford my first full frame Nikon, the D750. With studio lights, my focus shifted to portraits, some corporate work and event photography. Never wanted to do weddings :) There are plenty really good wedding photographers out there! My love for low light and night photography blossomed.
Currently I enjoy creative light portraits, sport and finding the abstract in nature in textures and patterns.
